Bras for a cause: Exhibit, raffle benefit breast cancer

News - Traverse City Record-Eagle

ALDEN - Thirty artists, one cause - and a size 36C.
That's what it took to create the 2005 "A Way to Women's Wellness ArtBra Exhibition" making its way to Alden next week. The show, July 20-24 at the Spencer Creek House next to The Muffin Tin, features embellished crazy-quilted and pieced bras designed by nationally known artists including Kathleen Glynn of Antrim County.

With names like "Aphrodite's Wedding Bodice," "Got Milk?" and "Texas Double Barrel Slingshot," the bras are helping to raise money for breast cancer research. The project is the creation of international author, teacher, designer and lecturer Victoria Adams Brown, who has been featured in several major magazines and on The Discovery Channel show "Home Matters."

After seeing a magazine ad for a bra decorated with star sequins, Adams Brown decided to challenge her artist friends to do better. She gave them each a store-bought bra and asked them to embellish it in their own style. The designers also were asked to name their design, and to create a mythical story about who might have worn it.
