Tea, hope and underwear

I received a coaster from a friend in Canada which read 'while there is tea there is hope' so feeling inspired I decided to change the poem for a Lingerieholic to 'while there is underwear there is hope'.

There is hope

Bad day
Buy new knickers
Boring, lonely or depressing day

Working out cost per wear
They are cheap really
A little indulgence doesn’t hurt
Just a few pounds

The rush of adrenaline at the till
Pink and white tissue papers wrap the items

Going out and need the prefect suppport

Why underwear?

I got asked the question last week why underwear, with an option to collect anything why lingerie?

Something believe it or not that I haven’t asked myself before but it struck me as interesting question. I started to investigate and after some soul searching and conversations the answer became clear, escapism.

On the outside of a nine till five job dressed in suits or even smart work clothes. This secret pastime can be used as escapism, when you check into the corporate office or even to the office which tries to be cool and encourages personalities although not to much as you still need to blend. Then underwear can be the perfect vehicle to become the free person you want to be... Through the garment closest to our skin I believe we can be anything we want to be and no one else need know unless we choose to invite them into the inner circle.

Wonderbra is overhauling its website

LONDON - Wonderbra is overhauling its website as it seeks to shake off its 90s 'Hello boys' image and reposition itself as a lifestyle brand.

The site, created by Iris, will go live in October. It is part of a strategy to link the brand to fashion by showing women how different looks can be achieved by wearing its bras.

Visitors will be directed to the 'uplift', 'rounded', 'cleavage' or 'plunging' zone, each of which will feature the range of bras in that category. There are also plans to offer online sales.

Iris has previously handled experiential events for Wonderbra, including a series of fashion events called 4 Effect.

Peaches charity underwear auction in eBay controversy

Peaches' underpants have being removed from eBay after the online auction site deemed the lot "unsuitable" for sale.

The singer is among a string of artists who have donated personal items and time to raise money for Three Gut Records founder and visual artist Tyler Clark Burke.

The auction is aiming to raise money to buy Burke, who is experiencing family health problems, a home. Twenty per cent of the proceeds will also go to charity Habitat For Humanity.

However the site's administrators deemed the used thong donated by Peaches as unsuitable for sale via eBay.

"The Peaches auction was yanked because it was apparently against the eBay adult content mandate - no used underwear, no matter what," Burke told NME.COM, before adding that fans still have a chance of buying the old pair of pants.

"What I'm going to do is actually auction off a ball of peach yarn so eBay won't pull it again," said Burke. "The winner of this yarn will also get a free pair of used Peaches' thong undies, which I'll explain on my site, not on eBay. She's donated a nice pink mesh thong."

Along with the underwear, other lots in the auction include the chance to have Broken Social Scene write a song about you and the opportunity to pen a track with Feist.

Sara Lee Branded Apparel has taken the radical step of creating brassiere ads intended to inform women instead of, uh, titillating men, reports Julie Bosman in The New York Times (7/15/06). "Victoria's Secret has had success owning seksy, and I think there's a certain segment of the population that wants a seksier bra," says Rob Schapiro, creative director of the Martin Agency, which created the new campaign for Sara Lee's Barely There brand. He adds: "...We realized that a large segment of the population is concerned about how she looks in her bra while actually wearing clothing." And so the ads are were designed "to take the place of a gimlet-eyed girlfriend -- someone who will matter-of-factly tell you that your strap is showing, or that a lacy bra has no place under a shirt made of thin fabric."

The campaign sends its message using a "before-and-after" construct, "with two bras side-by-side that illustrate the result of an ill-chosen bra. On the left is a bra that is bumpy or misshapen (labeled 'There'). On the right, a bra with a monochromatic background ("Barely There.") The 'There' bras are adorned with objects that signify bumps, ridges and other bra-related problems. (The objects the Martin Agency ... dreamed up include headlights, Jiffy Pop, pine cones and pointy pink-drink umbrellas)." It is indeed a far cry from Victoria's Secret, devoid of "slinky body parts and ... stiletto heels." It's also a departure for Barely There, "which in the past has subscribed to the standard formula of women's underwear advertising."

Referring to the status quo, Tolli Love, Barely There's vp of marketing comments: "Men are attracted to that type of advertising ... I think there's a perception that with intimate apparel, seks sells, and then women, to, are unfairly grouped into that category." Even Wonderbra seems to have grasped the concept, replacing "in-your-face" ads featuring a lot of "you-know-what," with relatively more subtle approaches, such as "a restaurant full of men staring straight ahead, at a woman who is not in the picture." Whether Barely There's practicality pitch succeeds remains to be seen, but it does seem well, um, supported: "By some estimates, as many as 85 percent of the female population" is "wearing ill-fitting bras."

Scratch and sniff underwear

Scratch and sniff t-shirts were big and now Munki Munki has launched scratch and sniff boy short underwear and tank vests. Whether your chosen man is the BBQ king, handyman or mowerman (not quite Jesse Metcalfe the gardener from Desperate Housewives) but they all come with there own aroma when scratched for example mowerman smells of fresh grass when scratched.

I think a sense of humour is all-good but what happened to the little strawberries that were scratch and sniff? They smelled not of a man but gave a fruity aroma…good for both of you. I would suggest these Munki Munki scratch and sniff are something just for the ladies ;o)

Kate Moss is set to make a million men's fantasies come true in four mini films for Agent Provocateur. The supermodel has already shot the X-rated footage, which includes her strutting down the street wearing only knickers and writhing about on the floor while photographers snap her from above, but it won't be unveiled until later this year. "Kate will play the mysterious lady, the scarlet woman that everyone wants to be. She looks sensational," a snoop informs the Daily Mirror. Film director Mike Figgis, who shot the saucy scenes, says: "I finally realise why people call her a supermodel. She is the only one and she is the best."

Summer is strapless time..

Tis the (Strapless) Season! Newsletter from Wonderbra landed in my inbox this morning, yes indeed it is the season to make sure your T-shirt bras and strapless bras are smooth and not turned lumpy bumpy over the test of time, ready for the summer period when the sun finally decides to shine brightly.

The strapless Wonderbra looks ok for young girls who’s bra size is not above a B but anything more and the strapeless might not be not ‘I caught you peeking’ but ‘real boobs spill out like this..’. Wonderbra have gone from using Barbie type girls to models who have been so digitally enhanced they seem like computer generated images. The boobs on these digital creations have had so much TLC in photoshop that the bosoms look fake.

Real women beware the strapless bra will not look like this unless you’re petite, for real women I would suggest the light camel bra from Marks and Spensers with nude straps, free clear straps plus it can be worn with no straps ideal for the summer wardrobe.

Mintel highlights one of the biggest changes since its last report in 2004 as being the polarisation in the sector led by Primark and New Look. Their growth has meant that the competition for the traditional players (department stores, M&S, BHS etc) has moved from just being the out-of-town value retailers (supermarkets and Matalan) to on the high street - right on thier doorstep.

Underwear on ice

Models are shivering for their fee at an underwear fashion show being staged on ice in Germany.

Organisers hope the fashion show will catch the public's attention during a cold snap which has seen temperatures drop as low as minus 30C.

Models will don skates to show off the latest lingerie and swimwear at the event in Leipzig which is part of a lingerie trade fair in Germany..

Tied Up at the Office - Agent Provocateur

LONDON - Lingerie brand Agent Provocateur is to launch a new viral campaign, directed by Mike Figgis, that is being trailed by a short teaser film.

Called 'Tied Up at the Office' the full eight-minute film is to appear on February 9. Until then, a trailer can be viewed on a microsite.

Figgis is known for films including 'Leaving Las Vegas' and 'Internal Affairs'. His film for Agent Provocateur is shot in black and white and mixes footage of mannequins dressed in lingerie interspersed with film of actors.

Real Networks designed and is hosting a co-created microsite for the campaign, and will also be promoting it across many of its RealGuides entertainment portals.

Visitors to the microsite can sign up to register for an alert when the full-length film premieres online, and can also forward the link to the trailer to their friends.

On the Agent Provocateur website, members of the AP Club mailing list can access an interview with Figgis, who also directed 'Timecode', as well as stills and wallpaper from the film.

David Beckham's £1,000 monthly underwear bill

David Beckham spends a staggering £1,000 a month - on pants. The soccer ace allegedly splashes out hundreds of pounds on underwear every fortnight because he never wears the same pair twice.

The Real Madrid star - who is married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham - reportedly picks up piles of designer Calvin Klein pants at Spain' s swanky El Cortes Ingles department store. A source at the shop said: "He buys 30 pairs every time and spends between £545 to £615. David never purchases anything other than Calvin Klein from the Pro Stretch range. He doesn't stick around very long and normally looks quite sheepish."

David is known for his extravagant tastes. At Christmas he presented Victoria with a stunning £1.2million ruby and diamond necklace.
