Parliament bans use of national flag on underwear

Daily Times, Pakistan

India has banned the use of the national flag on underwear or on any other clothing worn below the belt, a report said Tuesday. However, sports figures and others can wear India’s green, white and orange national colours on T-shirts, caps and coats, according to legislation passed Monday by parliament, The Hindu reported. The legislation makes it illegal to “insult” national symbols by displaying them on clothes and accessories worn below the belt or on underwear, the newspaper said.

The legislation also makes it illegal to embroider national symbols on pillow cases and handerkerchiefs. Interior Minister Shivraj Patil told parliament the measures were in response to suggestions by the public.

Bra company thrives with help of eBay

News - Fortwayne,USA

Howell received a cheery holiday greeting from eBay as part of a breakfast-in-bed appreciation program for 100 top sellers across the country. He was served a continental breakfast on a tray and received an eBay apron, slippers and a copy of the Free Press.

With the breakfast, eBay hopes to call attention to the people who are trying to make it through the holidays often single-handedly running their small businesses.
About 724,000 Americans make all or most of their living selling goods on eBay, according to market research firm A.C. Nielsen. The top-selling categories include cars, clothing, accessories, consumer electronics, computers, books, movies, music, home and garden, sports and collectibles.

"Even my sister says, `He knows more than any man should' about bras," Howell said. His online auction business was an outgrowth of stores he once ran.

But now, Howell, who specializes in the hard-to-find larger bra sizes, sells in 20 different countries.

Charlotte Church in mobile garter

News - Sun online (Gizmodo), UK

SEXY Charlotte Church has inspired a must-have Christmas gift - a saucy garter that holds a girl’s mobile phone in place on a night out.

The black and pink satin band was worn over the Welsh beauty’s legs in the video for .hit single Call My Name

And now it's set to become a best-selling fashion accessory after Agent Provocateur and mobile network 3 brought it to the high street.

Serena Rees - a spokesman for the lingerie firm - said: "The garter is a perfect example of fashion meeting functionality.

"I’m sure they will be popular gifts with men tired of carrying around their girlfriend’s phone in their pockets on nights out!"

Jordan underwear jewellery

Unfortunately it looks like chav jewellery but the idea behind the knickers, corset and bra jewellery is one worth doing well. In this case it’s the cheap Silver Plated Studs version which has hit the Argos shelves however if someone wanted to produce a stylist alternative then we would be happy to see them arrive. We live in hope..

Tyra Banks Takes Final Spin on Runway

NEW YORK - The runway is now behind Tyra Banks. Her final cruise down the catwalk was the Victoria's Secret show, which is being broadcast Tuesday on CBS at 10 p.m. EST.

She "retired" wearing a red lace bra and underwear with a belt made of military-style medallions, kicking up her high heels with Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum and Naomi Campbell at her side.

With two TV shows — her daily talk show and "America's Next Top Model" — Banks hadn't been doing much modeling anyway, and she wanted to go out on top.

She still looks good, mind you, as she prepares to turn 32 on Sunday. You could even say she looks great. She spoke to The Associated Press just before the Victoria's Secret show, wearing a red satin robe, sneakers and her signature long lashes.

Singapore keeps sex exhibition tame

News - Reuters.uk, UK

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - No nudity. No whips and handcuffs. No penis rings. No inflatable sex dolls.

Those were just some of the sex toys barred from display as strait-laced Singapore opened its first sex exhibition under the watchful eyes of the police.

Instead the three-day Sexpo 2005 offered pole dancers, condoms, vibrators, sexy lingerie and sexual health seminars to titillate crowds and excite the libido of a country consistently ranked bottom in a global survey of sexually active nations.

Barred to anyone under 21, the exhibition is far from racy yet it is seen as a milestone for the tightly controlled city-state that bans pornography and has tight censorship laws that routinely snip nudity and sex scenes from movies.

"This is really tame for a sex exhibition. But this is Singapore, so I was not expecting a lot more," said Christopher Hedman, a 49-year-old marketing director.

Curious crowds, mostly male retirees in their 50s, converged on booths demonstrating use of a condom that comes complete with a vibrating ring. Many whipped out mobile phones to snap pictures as erotic dancers -- clad in midriff-baring tops, mini-skirts and three-inch-heels -- gyrated to pumping music.

Police and Singapore's media watchdog reminded organisers of rules restricting display of adult toys and warned them not to promote "objectionable sexual behaviours or lifestyle, such as sado-masochism, bestiality, homosexuality, paedophilia and promiscuity".

Can buying a bra be an uplifting experience?

News - The Timesonline, UK

I have difficulty finding the right bra and never seem to get it right. I find the underwear sections in department stores and even M&S completely bewildering — there is too much choice and I don’t know where to start. Do we really need so many different sorts of bra? I just want something that is comfortable and gives me good support. What should I look for?

Dear me, it’s time to wake up to the fact that the world of bras has become as complicated as a Marco Pierre White recipe. The manufacturers have discovered that keeping bosoms well supported, bearing in mind their varying weights, sizes and shapes, is not a job for those hoping for a quiet life. And there’s also the dizzying collection of necklines that have to be accommodated, with a combination of modesty and allure, if the bra is to fulfil its wearers’ hopes and dreams.

Sara Lee sells European apparel business

News - TurkishPress, Turkey

US consumer goods group Sara Lee Corp. said it was offloading its European branded clothes business as part of a worldwide effort to slim down its lingerie-to-cheesecake operations.

Sara Lee said it would sell multiple apparel brands in Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and throughout Eastern Europe to US private investment group Sun Capital Partners for 100 million euros (117.5 million dollars).

The European business markets brands such as Dim, Playtex, Wonderbra, Abanderado, Nur Die and Unno and generated nearly 1.2 billion dollars in sales in the 12 months to July.

Sara Lee chief executive Brenda Barnes said the deal was a "key step" in the group's "bold and ambitious plan designed to simplify Sara Lee and focus on our core food, beverage, and household and body care businesses".

Sizing them up: Bras can be a tough fit

News - ST Louis Today

The bra is possibly the most important — and most overlooked — piece in a woman’s wardrobe. If it doesn’t work, it’s probably the most noticeable, too.

Most women can size up another’s bad bra woes with a glance. It’s just our own that can keep us in a pinch. Plus, there’s the whole deal with denial. Many of us have changed ZIP codes far more often than we’ve changed bra sizes even though we know we need an update.

Sara Lee moves £170m pan-European media account

News - Brand Republic, UK

LONDON - Sara Lee International has consolidated its £170m pan-European media planning and buying business from nine agencies into Omnicom's OMD.

OMD will handle media for all 17 European markets, compared with the previous five markets it held prior to the review in June.

The consolidation includes the £11m UK account, which had been held by Publicis Groupe's ZenithOptimedia. Other agencies to lose business include Aegis Group's Carat, WPP's MindShare and Havas' Media Planning Group.

The consolidation comes into effect in January 2006.

The company, part of food manufacturer Sara Lee Corp, said it had moved the account into one agency "to create more synergy, efficiency and economy of costs".

The review covers household and bodycare brands including Brylcreem, Radox, Sanex, Ambi-Pur and Kiwi shoe polish, coffee and tea brands, and bakery products.

Creative for household products, handled in the UK by Grey and WCRS, is unaffected by the decision.

A review last year saw Sara Lee consolidate its $200m US account into Publicis Groupe's Starcom.

The consolidation saw agencies including ZenithOptimedia, OMD and Media Planning Group, the Martin Agency and Mullen all lose business.

Trend - lingering over lingerie

News - Pretoria News,South Africa

Corset-top bras are a must-have item this season. These tops, which offer support to belly and breasts, usually come in shimmering silks and look really slick. They are designed as inner and outer wear, so when you've run out of sexy tops to wear for a night out, it's perfectly acceptable to wear one.

Some even come with suspenders to strap on stockings during role-playing in the bedroom.

G-strings and T-strings are so last season, darling, and full knickers are taking over. But this by no means implies that you can rush out to buy the three-in-one school gym panties which kept you warm many moons ago.

Full knickers look like briefs, but are cut to sit just over the butt-cheeks. They are comfortable and look good enough to prance around the house in.

Lingerie with a lift: Cops go high-tech to bust cheeky panty raiders

News - Boston Herald, USA

Call them the thong arm of the law.

Undercover underwear sleuths on the Web are working with local cops to bust panty-pilfering rings who've stolen tens of thousands of dollars' worth of Victoria's Secret lingerie this year alone in Massachusetts.

Panty-store raiders have hit the Northshore Mall three times in the past month. Peabody police detectives have been sniffing for clues ever since to catch the cunning culprits, who have ripped off more than ,000 worth of Victoria's Secret merchandise.

"Essentially, we are compiling descriptions, comparing one incident to the other to see if it's the same person,'' said Peabody detective Michael Crane. ``It's a very difficult situation, because nobody has come up with a definitive description."

Earlier this year, high-tech tactics led to the conviction of panty-raid ringleader Jennifer Stevanovich, 31, of Andover.

According to a report by Chief Security Officer Magazine, a loss-prevention detective at Victoria's Secret's parent company, Limited Brands, led Andover police to Stevanovich by posing as a customer at an online auction. She was convicted in February of possession of stolen property.

The online investigator tracked Stevanovich to Andover by the return address she used while moving thousands of dollars' worth of panties and other mall-rat essentials on online auction site eBay.

Actress sued over lingerie ad

News - China view, China

BEIJING, Oct. 27 -- A local lingerie company exchanged evidence with one of Hong Kong's top film stars and an advertising agency yesterday as part of a series of lawsuits over a TV ad that ran into problems.

The lingerie maker, Shanghai Bosideng Enterprise Development Co Ltd, hired actress Maggie Cheung to perform in the advertisement, which was supposed to be shot by Hong Kong-based Jet Tone+Limited.

The ad wasn't finished in time, so Bosideng ended up doctoring a photo of the actress - using her face and the body of a model - to create a static ad that ran on CCTV, according to the suits.

Bosideng is suing Jet Tone and Cheung for not making the ad, while the two defendants are countersuing Bosideng over the doctored picture.

The Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court is dealing with both of the lawsuits.

Bosideng is demanding Jet Tone return nearly 2 million yuan (US$240,964) it received as advanced payments for the ad. It also wants the two defendants to pay 3.95 million Hong Kong dollars (US$506,390) in compensation and terminate the contract.

Underwear ads fail to triumph over ‘strict’ council rule

The Herald - Glasgow,Scotland,UK

IT is a storm in a D-cup – over an advertising campaign deemed too provocative for the streets of Scotland's largest city.
An attempt to promote products by a lingerie company on the side of black cabs has fallen foul of Glasgow City Council's licensing authority.
The campaign, by Triumph International, was to have featured models posing in underwear along the sides of taxis. However, it has been turned down by the local authority on the grounds it contains "nude or semi-nude figures".

The decision has attracted widespread criticism from taxi advertising companies, who say Glasgow's policy on the matter is "overly strict".
The Triumph campaign already adorns cabs in London, Liverpool and Bristol, but Glasgow is the first to reject it.
The campaign features three images, each of which shows the models and the phrase, Get Amazing Curves. The request to use them on black cabs came before the council's licensing convener's sub-committee yesterday by Patons Taxis, acting agents for Triumph.

China blames US for textile row

News - BBC, UK

The textile row continues...

China has said one-sided US proposals are to blame for the breakdown in the latest round of talks on a textile export row between the two countries.
China's commerce ministry said it could not agree to a deal which would harm its industry's "healthy development".

But the official China Daily newspaper went further, saying that the US had insisted on terms that "contain too few, if any, incentives".

The row over Chinese textile exports encompasses both the US and Europe.

Western nations have seen a flood of garments coming from China since a global tariff deal, the Multi Fibre Agreement, lapsed on 1 January.

Pants pong prevented

News - The Age, Australia

They might have invented Pong proof pants but that doesn't make the idea of not chaning your underwerar right.

Stinky underwear could soon be consigned to the garbage bin of history, thanks to the invention of what British manufacturers claim are the first "pong-proof pants".

Tiny fragments of silver woven into the North Face briefs help stop bacteria multiplying, mean they can be worn again and again without getting smelly.

Even the oldest trick in the book for those concerned about causing a stench - turning underwear inside out before wearing it for a second day - is rendered unnecessary, the company says.

The way the material is woven also helps resist malodorous microbes and mildew.

The specialist outdoor expedition equipment manufacturer created the range of base layer clothing for its team of hardened athletes and explorers.

The technical undergarments had to be lightweight, comfortable and durable enough to last a trip to the top of Everest, and also easy to care for even when miles from a washing machine.

The lightweight synthetic Baselayer range, made of polypropylene yarn, resists odour build-up.

Keith Byrne, marketing manager for The North Face, said the garments would be "extremely popular" with the general public, as well with serious athletes.

"The fact they resist odour build-up is sure to appeal to blokes everywhere who may be slightly challenged in the washing machine department," he said

Victoria's Secret lingerie display draws

News - London Free Press, Canada

MCLEAN, VA. -- A new lingerie display in a Victoria's Secret storefront has attracted not just long glances, but also protesters and allegations the chain is promoting lesbian behaviour and sadomasochism.

About 30 women -- no men -- picketed the Tysons Corner Center store yesterday morning. Some of them weren't satisfied that store workers had toned down the display, and promised to boycott the newly expanded mall, now among the country's largest.

A mannequin that had been tied up was unfettered, though it still leaned against a pole with arms raised above the head, and a rope and pulleys still loomed ominously in the background.

Two female figures lying spooning in a bed were replaced with a single mannequin sitting with legs crossed. A mannequin on hands and knees, crawling toward another female figure, was also removed.

The display went a little too far even for regular Victoria's Secret customers such as Marti Ross of West Springfield.

"It feels like evil, feels like I have to cross the evil to get to the light," she said, comparing the dark-toned storefront display to the more traditional display and lighting inside.

Calendar girls add a touch of glamour

News - Cambridge Evening News,UK

BATTLING breast cancer can leave women feeling unattractive but one woman has told how she is fighting back in a sexy new calendar.

When you speak to Nita Smith her tinkling laugh is infectious and she claims her sense of humour is what helped her beat breast cancer in 2000.

Now the 51-year-old is chuckling at the thought of pictures of her body adorning the wall of homes and garages across the country.

Nita, who works as a nursing sister at The Bupa Cambridge Lea Hospital in Impington, said: "It is funny to think people will be buying a calendar with me in it, but it was lots of fun because I have always loved getting dressed up."

Wearing just a sophist-icated black negligee, Nita stars as Miss October in the fundraising calendar for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Macmillan Cancer Relief and Breast Cancer Care.

She said: "I found out I had cancer just a day after my mum died, but I didn't tell my husband because he and worries about things. But, when I finally broke the news, he was incredibly supportive and he is my rock."

Alongside their photo the women, all dressed in lingerie or corsets, tell their story which is even more poignant as Jacqui Blood, Miss April, did not live to see the end result.

Britney Spears' jewelled bra

News - WENN via Yahoo, UK & Ireland

Bosses at Internet auction site eBay have put Britney Spears' jewelled bra back under the hammer after deciding the item doesn't breach the company's rules about selling used underwear.

The bra, which the new mum wore to promote a pay-per-view TV concert special, was among a number of personal items Spears donated to the site in a bid to raise funds for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

But one eBay staff member decided the item was inappropriate and pulled the bra from the site.

Bosses at eBay insist the slightly-worn bra is acceptable because it's a piece of entertainment memorabilia and the cash is going to a good cause.

Bidding for the bra has topped GBP27,800.

Wonderbra decries 'sexist' lingerie ads

News - scotsman, UK

THEY brazenly exploited Eva Herzigova's curves to shout "Hello Boys" from hundreds of bill boards, boosting busts and bra sales throughout the 1990s.

But the makers of Wonderbra have now turned their backs on such provocative images and accused rival lingerie makers Marks & Spencer of sexism for using semi-naked women in their adverts.

Hervé Bailly, Wonderbra's marketing director, said underwear launches designed to appeal to men "demean women".

He singled out Marks & Spencer's Per Una range for using models in underwear posing on London streets as an example of sexist advertising.

One to watch Karen Nicol

News - observer, UK

The catwalk loves Karen Nicol. As well as supplying handmade lace and embroidery designs for clients such as Chloe, Julien Macdonald, John Rocha and Matthew Williamson, it was Nicol who, earlier this year, sent out models in 'skull-and-crossbones' lace for Clements Ribeiro's 2005 autumn/winter show.

'I love the idea of spending time on something almost throwaway, like taking old bits of sack and adding pearls and lace,' she enthuses. 'I worked on a lace dress for Antonio Berardi which was designed with all the bobbins hanging from the bottom as you walked. We got the lace made in Italy and it took the whole village three or four weeks. In the end the mayor gave it to him because they couldn't begin to price it.'

Now Nicol has designed her own contemporary collection - funky hanging embroideries to be worn over jeans or dresses. The collection, 'A Dash of Spirit', goes on show in London next month.

Myla sold to investors as it runs out of cash

News - telegraph, UK

A little bit late on the press on this one however I still think it is worth a mention on Pants HQ. Sad to see Myla sold to investors when Nina Hampson and Charlotte Semler founded the company five years ago.

Here is the news..
Nina Hampson and Charlotte Semler have been forced to hand Myla, the luxury lingerie and sex shop they founded five years ago, to private equity investors after the business ran out of cash.

Daniel and Leo Gestetner are taking almost all of Myla's equity via a company called the Investor, whose shareholders include Dawney Day's chairman, Guy Naggar, and deputy chairman Brian Smouha.

The Duet Group and Octopus Asset Management have also taken a stake in Myla.

Ms Hampson and Ms Semler will have their controlling stake diluted to 6pc. They remain on the board but on new contracts understood to last just nine months with a further six-month non-compete clause should they leave.

In a letter to shareholders, the company said it had "experienced severe trading difficulties" due to a slowdown in the retail market and insufficient cash to invest in new products. Myla was able to continue only thanks to "the goodwill of some suppliers". Shareholders will now vote on the deal, which a source close to the company described as a "mugging".

The Gestetner brothers, who own Zoggs swimwear and Pure Lime, a Danish women's gymwear brand, paid just over £900,000 for new and existing shares in Myla.

They plan to invest "several million pounds" to expand the business - whose signature product is a G-string of pearls that featured in the TV series Sex and the City - beyond its boutiques in London, New York and Paris.

Kelly Brook to launch lingerie range

News - Digital Spy, UK

Kelly Brook is planning on launching her own range of lingerie and swimwear.

"I'm bringing out a range of proper branded goods," the model and presenter told Arena magazine.

"I’m working with the people who did the merchandise for Pokemon and Teenage Mutant Nija Turtles. I’m going to start off with my own range of swimwear. Then some lingerie next year."

However, Brook is determined that she won't be following in footsteps of Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears by launching her own fragrance - as she thinks it would be too tacky.

She added, “I don’t think I will be bringing out a perfume. I’m not a total sell-out.”

Dreaming of Bras for the Modern Woman

News - New York Times, US

Many of those too young to remember probably know about the ad campaign that Maidenform ran from the end of World War II up through the mid-1960's. It was the one with gorgeous ladies, their bottoms modestly clad but their tops ensconced only in their bras, dreaming they "went shopping" - or rode fire trucks, or crossed the Nile on Cleopatra's barge - "in their Maidenform bras."

It was shockingly risqué for the time - in fact, Mad Magazine spoofed the campaign in 1962, with "I dreamed I was arrested for indecent exposure in my Maidenform bra." But, it sure sold a lot of undergarments.

But you won't pick any of that up from the three-part billboard that since Sept. 21 has towered over the southwest corner of 35th Street and Seventh Avenue in Manhattan - right across the street from Macy's, one of Maidenform's major channels. It sports a beautiful young woman, shown from the waist up, wearing nothing but a bra. The ad copy is equally spare: "Introducing the dream bra."

But while the words say little, the model's look speaks volumes: She manages to be sultry and innocent and, well, dreamy.

"Maidenform has always had this emotional connection with women, an understanding of their aspirations, and that is what we are stressing now," said Elizabeth Morris, Maidenform's vice president for marketing.

For Maidenform, it is a repeat of history even beyond the retro-chic ad campaign. The company was founded during the Flapper Era of the 1920's, on the then-radical premise that women who were routinely binding and flattening their breasts would really rather have them lifted and contoured. Its founders were right - women bought bras in droves, and the company took off.

Lingerie with all the frills

News - Telegraph.co.uk - United Kingdom

Through all its ups and downs, Marks & Spencer can at least claim to supply a large proportion of the female population with new knickers.

At the most recent count, a quarter of British women bought their underwear at M&S, although the true figure is likely to be higher.

Lingerie has always been one of the chain's best-selling lines, accounting for 20 per cent of its total clothing sales and helping to bolster the store as its womenswear turnover plummeted in the past few years.

Today, M&S launches Per Una Lingerie, an off-shoot of the label founded by George Davies in 2001. Its range couldn't be more different from the store's main collections - from the outset, girly frills and ruffles have adorned garments, and pinks have been dotted throughout.

Trend layered petticoats and lacy underwear!

News - Yahoo News, UK

Betty Jackson, one of the well-established designers who took part in London Fashion Week earlier this month. "Spring/summer 2006 it should be much sleeker and sharper," said Jackson, whose dresses and skirts set the scene for a summer of simple whites, blacks, maroons and greens.

As for her fashion must-have, Jackson said: "Something orange."

Flowing dresses also graced British designer Tanya Sarne's Ghost collection in London along with layered petticoats and lacy underwear.

Belfast photographer snaps women for charity calendar

News - Belfast Telegraph

A NEW charity calendar featuring 12 breast cancer sufferers in vintage lingerie will give hope to other women battling with the disease, a Belfast photographer said today.

Pamela Shomer, who captured the women on camera for the calendar, said it was a positive celebration of their courage and beauty.

The calendar, Corsets 4 Cancer, will be available to buy from October 6 and it is hoped will raise thousands of pounds for three cancer charities.

Pamela, who studied photography at Rupert Stanley College in Belfast but now lives in London, came up with the idea of the calendar along with a friend who owns a corset shop and is also a make-up artist and hair stylist.

She said: "I visited my friend Jenny Dodson's corset shop in Brighton and the seeds for the project were sown there.

"We both know women who have had breast cancer and we decided to do something worthwhile that could combine both our talents and raise money at the same time.

Patagonia looking for used underwear

News - Santa Cruz Sentinel, CA

SANTA CRUZ — Patagonia, the outdoor gear and apparel company, wants your old underwear. But not just any old underwear.

Patagonia stores across the country are collecting used Capilene undergarments for a new recycling program.

Locals are invited to drop off or mail their old Capilene garments — only those made by Patagonia — to the Patagonia Outlet, 415 River St., Santa Cruz, starting Sept. 12.

A bin will be set up in the store for customers to leave their old underwear.

"We’re hoping it’s clean," King said.

Patagonia is launching the Common Threads recycling project with Teijin, a fabric manufacturer in Japan. Patagonia is one of the first global companies to do a garment take-back recycling program, Jen Rapp, manager of public relations, said.

Making new polyester fiber from old results in energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gasses, she said.

World's most expensive lingerie!

News - Economic Times,India times

Good things in life don't come cheap. Here, a list of some 'most expensive' things available in the market. Bizarrely exorbitant!
Most expensive bra and underwear: $15 million

In 2002, Victoria's Secret out-did all of their records and created a $15 million bra and underwear titled Red Hot Fantasy. This bra was made of red satin, 1,300 gemstones, including rubies and diamonds. Before this, they had launched a one of a kind bra and underwear set made of platinum, sapphires and diamonds. The Star of Victoria Fantasy Bra is studded with a total of more than 2,500 carats of diamonds, sapphires, and other gemstones stones. The rose and leaf motif alone on the Star of Victora is made up of 320 carats. It is still up for sale for $10 million!

Goodbye Wonderbra?

Everywhere I turn there is articles on the death of the Wonderbra with
strap lines Goodbye boys (and good riddance) to Bye Bye Boys?

Has the Wonderbra really gone for good? Sales of push-up bras have plunged 10 per cent in the past year. In 1994 sales of cleavage enhancing bras grew from 10% of the bra market to massive 25-30%

The much loved “54 separates design features” of Wonderbra have it seems reached a crossroads. Some believe the bra was uncomfortable and with new versions on the market of push up bras the competition got ferocious.

Bioform bra an all day bosom enhancer designed for the larger bust by two British inventors who replaced the strictures of the Wonderbra with plastic cups.

Later came Ultimo bra with revolutionary uplifting silicone gel. (You need to be a weight lifter to pick up one of these).

Other high street stores followed and offered push-up bras meaning Wonderbra lost market share. The Hello Boys bra needs a makeover. If the crisscross on the back of the bra could be redesigned then this would be a good move, as even men know the wonder bra straps under tops. (A friend had hers pointed out while in the pub with a group of friends, quite embarrassing)

With changes the improved Wonderbra can fight back although a lot of this will be affected by fashion. While stars such as Kylie Minogue and Elle Macpherson cover up their bosoms so will the majority. With this in mind Wonderbra should revaluate the current design and pray for the resurge of the bust. Of course Love Kylie x and Elle MacPherson Intimates will have a few push up bras in their collections when the time comes.

As long as Wonderbra moves quickly, is prepared and has an outstanding marketing campaign once the cycle of fashion comes round again it might not be Goodbye boys.

Confessions of a Lingerie Addict

1000 Dessous, A history of lingerie by Gilles Neret
Description:
Tracing the history of lingerie from the dawn of civilization to modern times, this illustrated text includes over 1000 photographs and historical documents.

A nice book if you want to be inspired by images, some great photography. It does take you through the decades of underwear trends. Not ideal for every coffee table as some of the images are risky. Good for inspiration or just for reference.

3/5 ***

1000 Dessous

The Story of Lingerie by Muriel Barbier and Shazia Boucher
Description:
What do the thousands of images of bras and panties on perfectly sculpted bodies that we see spread across billboards and magazines say about our society?
Many women indulge in lingerie to please men. Yet, since Antiquity, women have always kept lingerie hidden away under outer garments. Thus, lingerie must be more than erotic bait.
Authors Muriel Barbier and Shazia Boucher have researched iconography to explore the relationship of lingerie to society, the economy and the corridors of intimacy. They correlate lingerie with emancipation, querying whether it asserts newfound freedoms or simply adjusts to conform to changing social values.
The result is a rigorous scientific rationale spiced with a zestly humour. And the tinier lingerie gets, the more scholarly attention the authors believe it deserves.

Review:
Coming sooner once the book has been finished so far very good!

Review:
At last a fun history book on underwear, this small yet perfectly formed book glimpses at advertisements over the years, including underwear in films and celebrities turned lingerie designers. Lingerie show reveals Durban to world

News - Daily News, South Africa

A dozen divine models will be showing TV audiences around the globe that Durban can compete with the best in the world.

Their Fire and Ice lingerie show tomorrow night, which is aimed at "melting the winter cold and turning people on" to local fashion, is being filmed especially for the top channel, Fashion TV.

As lingerie shows are shown more often that any other fashion on the channel, Justin Cleaver, a Durban-based former international model and the brains behind the production, knew that if he wanted to reveal what Durban had to offer, he had to stage an underwear show.

And with 10 years of international modelling behind him - he has done shows for Armani and Hugo Boss - he knows what he is doing.

He now aims to bring in international clients to use KZN locations. And he wants to uplift the city's fashion and runway image and give international exposure to local designers and models.

The lingerie show takes place at Krakatoa in the Sibaya Casino at 9pm and will bring together top South African lingerie designers for the first time: Durban's Haroun Hansrot of Hansrot Couture, in demand since showcasing his designs at recent fashion weeks, will feature his work.

Durban's Gideon, will also show off his lingerie range for the first time, and the show will open with a range by Durban's Kevin Ellis.

Hidden Secrets

Exhibition - Museum of Costume, near Dumfries
Hidden Secrets runs from 3 September until 31 October

Ladies, ever grumbled about the underwiring in your bra? Scowled because your control pants don't seem to be doing their job properly? Got upset when you realised the luxurious silk and lace camisole you splashed out on will have to be hand-washed?

The world of undergarments is filled with trials and tribulations, not to mention high expectations. When we don't want our assets pushed up and out, we want them flattened out of sight. And did I mention comfort?

Spoiled by Lycra, we 21st-century girls don't expect to have to suffer in the pursuit of physical perfection. But perhaps if we were to step - or rather, be hoisted - into the undergarments of our Victorian forebears, we'd pause before complaining about the state of our undies.

Ooh La La Senza! Lingerie chain planning to be more intimate

News - canada.com

Cash-rich La Senza Corp. said yesterday it will open about 15 more stores in Canada and add new intimate products as it builds its international brand name via 249 affiliated stores in 23 countries.

The 14-year-old La Senza, whose motto is: "We ship worldwide," now claims 37 per cent of the domestic market (age 15-29) for lingerie, sleepwear and accessories, against 11 per cent for arch competitor Wal-Mart Canada.

With openings in new "power centres," it will have more than 300 La Senza and Silk & Satin and La Senza Girl units across Canada by yearend and 260 stores operated by licensees in 27 countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

With problems in the U.S. out of the picture, La Senza is focusing solely on growth and market share, Irving Teitelbaum, chairperson, co-founder and CEO, told analysts yesterday.

But he is not yet ready to embrace the income trust model. Though a changeover might raise the share price with a lower tax rate that would be offered and please shareholders, the model does not fit easily with a "dynamic" specialty retailer like La Senza with international operations, he said.

"We've explored converting to an income trust as one of many options for the future," he added, "but we've so much cash we can consider strong organic growth as well as acquisitions - strictly within our sector."

Elton John to peddle saucy lingerie!

News - Female First, UK

It seems that there is more on flamboyant singer Elton John's list of things he fancies than just music, saucy supermodel lingerie!

And in a bid to promote his close friend, Elle MacPherson's scanty underwear range, he has agreed to appear in a series of racy advertisements, surrounded by a bevy of skimpily dressed voluptuous models.

So enamoured he apparently is with the project, he has even penned a story titled Rocket Girl, which will accompany the ad.

"She's faster than a bolt of lightening, but prefers to do things slowly. Rough with a thug, but beguilingly smooth... "Waitress by day, super heroine by night. Rocket Girl," Femalefirst quotes the story, as saying.

Elle Macpherson - intimate stories advertising campaign

News - The Times, UK

A new style of advertising for Elle Macpherson Intimates. Macpherson had grown bored with seminaked, smouldering pictures of herself. “I’m just tired of seeing tits and arse in an ad that tells you, ‘If you wear this, you can look like this,’” she says. This time around, you can’t even see the model’s face — just the paraphernalia of her life. The viewer is left to work out the rest. It’s a far sexier way of doing things.

For each image in the campaign, Macpherson asked a contributor — Emin, Damien Hirst, Sir Elton John, comedian Sandra Bernhard and Australian songwriter Matt Ford — to write a short story. The collection makes up a special, limited-edition anthology.

Emin’s short story, is typically frank, and that was just what Macpherson wanted. “I admire Tracey’s completely honest perception of things,” she says. “She doesn’t mind putting it out there, and people sometimes find it shocking, but haven’t most of us experienced some of what she’s talking about? And aren’t honesty and rawness so much more alluring than gloss, anyway?”

A sad, sad Christmas with no underwear

News - Ft.com, UK

For Claus Walther Jensen, getting his hands on bras for Christmas is one of the most important aspects of running Change, a Danish lingerie chain.

That is why the director went so far as to borrow a helicopter on Monday morning to secure one of the last European Union import licences for bras.

“We had 45,000 panties in Christmas colours but their 45,000 matching bras were trapped in a warehouse,” said a relieved Mr Walther Jensen after his helicopter dash.

“Other companies are suffering. I’ve got my goods in but I don’t want to win market share this way.”

Madonna looks at taking legal action against new lingerie range

News - Digital Bulletin, UK

LONDON - Madonna, who is recuperating from a horse riding accident on her birthday last week, is to attempt to stop a new underwear brand that features images of her taken by an American photographer in 1979.

The range is called Madonna Nude 1979, based on the photos taken by Martin Schreiber, when Madonna was attempting to establish her career as a performer, and supported herself with jobs including nude modelling.

The underwear features Madonna's face on T-shirts. The range also features bras and underpants inscribed with her name, the letter 'M', and somewhat puzzlingly the words "just a virgin". The full range can be seen on the website Madonnafashion.com and is to be sold in the UK through Figleaves.com.

Textile quotas leave stores facing crisis

News - Guardian, UK

British retailers could face a shortage of bras, T-shirts and men's trousers because of restrictions on Chinese textile imports, a trade organisation warned today.
The British Retail Consortium blamed the introduction of a new quota system in June, which followed a surge of Chinese clothes into the EU.

Because of the new arrangements, several of the 2005 quotas are already full, meaning more than £50m of Chinese-made clothing has been blocked from coming into the UK and is being held at ports and airports across Europe, the BRC said.

Jen's fury at knicker pervert

News - The Mirror, UK

Jennifer Aniston has hired a gang of heavies to guard her film-set trailer after a pervert broke in and knicked her knickers, then flogged them on eBay.

The sexy star, filming The Break Up in Chicago with heartthrob Vince Vaughn, 35, was furious after finding someone had broken in and made off with her bras and pants.

But the 36-year-old former Friends star was horrified when her frilly smalls appeared on the internet auction site. So now her private quarters are being guarded around-the-clock.

A pal said: "Jen was really freaked out." Well, it was pretty bra-zen behaviour.

Underwear is everywhere, and it's never been more in style

News - CBS News, US

Briefly Noted: Underwear Trends.

Once, underwear was considered unmentionable. Today, Americans are flaunting it, spending $13 billion every year on intimate apparel.

And there's something for everyone: briefs, boxer briefs, trunks and cycle shorts for men - bikinis, thongs, hipsters and boy shorts for women. And it's not just the style, it's the fabric too - everything from nylon and lycra to pima cotton and microfiber.

Forget the bottom of the hamper. Underwear is top drawer.

Rebecca Apsan is what you would call a connoisseur of lingerie. For 27 years, she's been selling some of the sexiest underwear in her downtown Manhattan boutique, La Petite Coquette.

Aspan says boy shorts are hot right now in women's underwear. "These have taken not the place of thongs but they've been selling very, very well," she says.

Hi-tech pants keep troops cool in the sun

News - The Guardian, UK

There will be no more "going commando", or melting boots for British soldiers sweating under the desert sun, the Ministry of Defence revealed yesterday.
Regiments in Iraq and Afghanistan are being equipped with new kit, including "anti-microbial" underpants designed to prevent, to put it euphemistically, uncomfortable chafing.

The pants were designed - so far only in a unisex version - in Northern Ireland and are manufactured in China, defence officials said yesterday.

"The term 'go commando' will probably now disappear," Colonel Silas Suchanek who led the team responsible for procuring the equipment said, referring to the slang phrase for going without underwear.

Camisoles fit full figures

News - STL Today

It’s probably no surprise that the camisole has made its way out of the underwear drawer and into many women’s closets. But what’s a bit interesting is that this trend has fully saturated the plus-size market.

Refusing to simply hide their curves behind oversized tunics and formless jackets, today’s plus-size woman wants stylish pieces that highlight her assets. And many find the cami, in its many incarnations, to be the piece of power.

Once just a supersexy undergarment, the cami can now be paired with jeans, a skirt, gauchos or a great suit to a make a statement that is both chic and feminine.

Pant dividers

My underwear drawer needs some organisation and I have found on a blog with an image of a drawer with panty dividers* A nice idea although they do not seem to have a great deal of sets in the drawer.

If there was a method for orgasnising at least a hundred sets of lingerie so I don't have to hunt through looking for matching garments each morning then that would make getting dressed each day a little quicker and easier. I shall look and keep you updated on my progress on finding a suitable method to store underwear. If you have any suggestions please email me.

*(If you are in a open plan office make sure the coast is clear before you click to see the panty diverders as there are some risky images on this website)

Bleeping bikini busts beach burn-up

News - Fashion Guide

A new bikini that bleeps every 15 minutes to prevent holidaymakers from sleeping in the sun is set for launch in Britain.

New Look, Britain's third-biggest women's clothes retailer, was to launch the "Tan-Timer Bikini" on Brighton beach on the south coast.

Some 59 per cent of Britons admit to nodding off in the sun, so the electronic device, which attaches to the swimsuit, bleeps every quarter of an hour to remind dozy Brits to wake up and seek shade or roll over to toast the other side.

The bikini is to hit stores across the kingdom next week.

Saudi Govt Begins Survey of Women's Stores

News - Middle East North Africa Financial Network, Middle East

Three government administrations are coordinating their efforts to begin surveying the job opportunities available for women in women's retail stores. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce would be cooperating to conduct the survey and register all the stores selling women's apparel and determine the fines to be imposed on them if they do not employ Saudi women and the mechanism for enforcing the system.

Saudi women interested in working in these stores will be provided with training before they are to enter this field starting next year. The Ministry of Labor had announced two months ago that shops selling women's items would be restricted to employing Saudi women only as part of its efforts at providing more job opportunities for Saudi women. Stores selling lingerie have a year to begin hiring, training and fully employing Saudi women. These are the stores on streets, in shopping centers and in department stores. The following year, stores selling abayas and women's ready-to-wear clothes are expected to comply with the new system.

Church turned down the Wonderbra offer, made just days after the teenager was snapped looking sexy in a bikini while on holiday in the Caribbean.

The star’s mother Maria confirmed the brunette beauty won’t be posing for the padded bra firm.

“At her age she doesn’t need a Wonderbra, she has a great figure. I’m sure she was flattered, but it’s just not her thing,” she was quoted by Femalefirst, as saying.

New Cams, Web Sites Fuel 'Upskirting' Trend

News - WKMG Local6.com, Yahoo UK

Web sites displaying secretly shot images and video from under women's skirts are apparently helping fuel a trend called "upskirting," according to a Local 6 News report.

Upskirting is usually carried out by men carrying hidden cell phone or mini-cams in bags. They stand close to unknowing women wearing skirts and film their underwear or thighs. Often, the images are then posted on Web sites.

The practice has become so popular that an Internet search for the term "upskirting" revealed more than 1 million Web sites, according to the report.

Very very wrong.

The thong sinks to the bottom

News - Guardian Unlimited, UK

The news, together with helpful photos, was all over the papers this week. It's the start of a "thong goodbye", said the Daily Mirror. "Bottom falls out of the thong market", reported the Sunday Times; without doubt, "thongs ain't what they used to be", according to the Daily Express
The fall in popularity of women's thong-style undergarments - sales are down 17% from 2003 - was not widely lamented. "There is a god, girls," sighed Amber Graafland in the Mirror. "Women are finally turning their backs on the most hideous piece of lingerie since the chastity belt." The fashion for "this ridiculous excuse for a pair of knickers" had first begun in 1930s strip clubs, and then surfaced on Brazilian beaches in the 70s.

"In 1997, however, it won fashion respectability when a Gucci model wore one on the catwalk," said John Elliott and Sarah Keenlyside in the Sunday Times. Since then, "the thong's association with 'tabloid' celebrities has tarnished its image", and it now accounts for only 23% of the women's underwear market, down from a giddy 31% at the end of 2003. They believed this was "part of a move away from overtly sexual clothing".

New Dove Ads Bring Inspiration, Ridicule

News - News Yahoo, UK

CHICAGO - Gina Crisanti was taking out the trash at work one day when a stranger approached her with an odd request. It was a talent scout who wanted her to try out for an ad campaign to sell Dove beauty products — wearing nothing but her underwear.

The offer was puzzling to say the least. Crisanti, a 24-year-old cafe worker, has never thought of herself as anywhere near supermodel stature — curvy and closer to 5 feet than six.

But that, it turns out, is the point. Crisanti and five other "real" women — ranging from size 6 to 14 — are the stars of a Dove ad campaign that shows them wearing only bras, panties and big smiles on billboards, bus stops and trains in Chicago, New York, and other big cities.

"It is our belief that beauty comes in different shapes, sizes and ages," said Philippe Harousseau, Dove's marketing director on the "Campaign for Real Beauty." "Our mission is to make more women feel beautiful every day by broadening the definition of beauty."

The thong goodbye

News - The Mirror, UK

The thong goodbye and good riddance to this hideous piece of torture says Fashion Editor Amber Graafland. There is a god, girls. The bottom has finally fallen out of the thong market.

Sales have fallen by 17 per cent in a year, showing that women are finally turning their backs on the most hideous piece of lingerie since the chastity belt.

Tarty, unsightly and like straddling a piece of cheese wire, this sadistic piece of underwear has finally been rejected in favour of more comfortable alternatives.

This ridiculous excuse for a pair of knickers should have remained confined to the strip clubs they came from way back in the 1930s.

No more thongs for German youth

News - Webindia123 - India

The German mail-order giant Neckermann, because of energetic protest from customers and advocacy groups, has stopped selling thongs for young children.

The Frankfurt-based company had offered the thongs for 3- and 4-year-olds in its fall/winter catalogue, the German news magazine Der Spiegel reported Monday.

The German anti-sexual-abuse society Wildwasser had repeatedly protested the selling of the underwear. Several mothers have also complained with the company, the magazine said.

Such underwear for small children is not only inappropriate, they said, but could draw the attention of a potential pedophile.

A company spokeswoman said Neckerman respects the complaints of its customers and will stop selling the underwear. She strongly dismissed, however, the claim that the thongs would arouse a potential pedophile.

Power of a half-naked woman

News - Ottawa Citizen, Canada

Provocative ads target female consumers
Never underestimate the power of a half-naked woman, especially when appealing to other women.

Such is the mantra of today's advertising world, where marketers promoting female-oriented products aren't getting inside a woman's psyche but rather into her lingerie drawer.

Over the past month, companies as diverse as Victoria's Secret, Gap and Dove have launched Internet and television campaigns featuring women in various stages of undress. While the efforts are disparate in both direction and purpose, each uses some form of boobvertising to catch the female consumer's attention.

"It's not surprising that sexual appeals have an impact in attracting our attention the way they do with men," says Ontario author Shari Graydon, who wrote In Your Face: The Culture of Beauty and You. "But obviously, (a woman's) relationship with those images is much more complicated."

CBI demands interest rate cute

News - Industry word and mouth, UK

Demands have been made by the British Retail Consortium to urgently cut interest rates. Sir Digby JOnes head of CBI employers' group has echoed the BRC's argument that the time for action is now.

Sir Digby's call came in the wake of shocking figures from the trades survey that sales have slumped to their lowest level since its survey began in 1983.

Some 42 per cent of retailers polled in the CBI's June survey said their sales had fallen compared to last year with 23 per cent reporting turnover has improved. The gap of minus 19 per cent translates into the industry's worst performance for 22 years.

The Bank of England's monetary policy committee which sets interest rates is due to meet very soon.

Big knickers to beaver cut

The Underwear Drawer - stories from a lingerieholic

A trip to Los Angeles is needed now as the new buzz word is “beaver cut” with larger knickers than g-strings back in fashion it appears pubic hair is also making a comeback. I should add styled pubic hair is making a comeback not the old fashion untrimmed bush!

On the west coast of the USA it seems for a trim down below you simple go in and pick a number. Make like finding a style of hair for your head like the Rachel years ago. Now you pick a number from images of different designs for your neither region.

No 2 on the style chart is Playboy which is a full waxing underneath with sides really clean but a pretty little V instead of the Brazilian strip. This design has been created for Pamela Anderson. No 5 is the straight forward Brazilian which is currently asked for less as the small strip of hair can emphasis your hips.
Number 7 the butterfly is proving very popular at the moment. Although there are seasonal elements to the job as Cindee Esser-Thorin owner of Pinks Cheeks in the USA points out, Christmas trees decorated with rhinestones and glitter are very popular in December.

Decoration down under is clearly the next big thing and in London Toni Jade will come to your house to put faux diamonds on your fingers and toes – and if you wish other parts..

The trend is from brutal wax jobs to keeping it bushy but trimmed. Look out for a beaver cutting shop near you.

Old lovers and like old bras

The Underwear Drawer - stories from a lingerieholic

You know you shouldn’t have them close to your skin again; however you seem to be unable to stop yourself. The charm and the allure over power your senses while you crave the familiar smell and warmth.

The old can feel snug and comforting for a while however the reason they were tossed away in the first place starts to show through, rubbing on your skin and causing an irritation. On the reunion the previous tension and sharp edges seems to have soften or disappeared. However these feelings do not last long, the fuzzy feeling is quickly replaced with un-comfort and this time you are more cautious and sensitive.

The old bra will never feel the same; the wire is poking through the material scrapping and pinching the skin at any given chance. The material is too fragile to mend it is time to clear out the old and make room for the new.
