Simple is the key

You know summer has arrived when wedding invitations fall through the letter box like confetti. Followed by party invites to hen nights or weekends. I read an article a few weeks ago on weddings in The Times and the article highlighted are weddings getting out of control? Quite frankly my response is yes the whole wedding scene is on a run away rollercoaster. Gone are the days of simple weddings, the girls local church and a near by pub for the reception. This was when the ceremony was the central feature of the day and the guests genuinely celebrated the couple’s future together.

Today it appears the venue is everything and guests have to pay a high price for attendance. Almost like a price ticket for the day’s event, high gift tag, travel and accommodation. Not to mention hen parties in far flung destinations. One hen game recently was for the hen to answer questions that her future husband has already answered. For wrong answers a shot was downed and for the right answers a pair of knickers were presented by each hen as a present for the honeymoon.

There will be a backlash for this huge wedding and a return to the simplicity. Once again we will celebrate the happy couples love and not the extravagant venue they have picked in a remote place. I do hope they keep the game to win knickers though, as for all those lovely knickers even I could be tempted on marriage although simplicity would rule.
